Satisfied Soldier Army Recruitment Centre, Plymouth

In July 2022, I was fortunate enough to have the chance to go and work in the Plymouth recruitment centre as a satisfied soldier. Recruitment is something that I’ve considered undertaking to enhance my career, so I jumped at the opportunity to have an insight into the full process.
I
arrived at a very busy office in Plymouth working with two former service personnel and three current serving personnel, one of which recruited me when I was going through the process via Exeter Army Careers Centre.
During my six weeks, I assisted in face-to-face meetings with candidates, who were unsure what they wanted to do and helped guide them into a specific role that would best suit them. Maintaining contact via the telephone, I ensured candidates were informed about how their application was progressing and what they needed to do to get to the next step. I was fortunate enough to work alongside the outreach team in Kingsbridge and Tavistock, during public roadshows we interacted with the Public, promoting opportunities within the Army. This was a great insight into how to interact with potential candidates of the future.
Working within Plymouth Recruitment Centre was an experience I greatly enjoyed, having the opportunity to witness and be part of the full recruitment process was incredibly beneficial to me and has piqued my interest in pursuing this part of the Army later in my career. Working with local communities and providing advice and guidance to people wanting to join the Army was great! It was extremely satisfying to see people coming in for a chat unsure of what they wanted to do and for them to leave smiling, with an application submitted for the Army and a whole career ahead of them.

a beautiful part of the country with Dartmoor a mere five minutes away to spend time and be on Satisfied Soldier. I timed it well too, there was an office social function the week I arrived, which was an excellent opportunity to break the ice and get to know the group I would be working with.
I had a fantastic experience at the Plymouth Recruitment Centre, working with Army personnel past and present and gained a full insight into the recruitment process from start to finish, it’s most definitely an opportunity I will further pursue while in the Army.
