Throughout a turbulent and busy 2022 with significant manning shortages and continuous trawls, the SPS Detachment have prevailed. We continue to provide the Regiment with essential Pers Admin Delivery whilst adopting the CONEMP framework directed by the Project Pers Admin Capability Review (PACR).
I
am pleased to report the Detachment have now settled into the hybrid operating model. All OR4s are located in RHQ within the newly formed Central Hub and the OR2/3s remain within their respective sub-units delivering the daily essential administration.
Despite the demands and hectic working environment, this has not thwarted the Detachments desire to participate in various cohesion days, which are absolutely vital in boosting morale. Two team members participated in the Regimental Golf Tour Portugal, resulting in a resounding SPS win! The weekly 3RHA Equestrian training is a great opportunity to all SP within the unit and catered to all abilities. Several members of the SPS team are regulars and take full advantage of the Wednesday sport afternoons.
Looking to the year ahead, I have no doubt the high tempo will remain. The changes within the Regiment following the IR announcement remains one of the Commanding Officer’s main priorities, as such, a lot of work within the G1/G8 sphere is currently being compiled to ensure process and adherence to the regulations is upheld.
Op CABRIT 9 Cpl Rea AGC (SPS)
I deployed on Op CABRIT 9 in Mar 2022 and was employed as the Artillery Group (Arty Gp) MPA (3 RHA & 19 Regt RA) who operated under the command of the RTR Battle Group (BG). My daily duties included generic Unit MPA taskings &
publishing routine orders along with Op CABRIT essential tasks such as personnel location
tracking (OSD, Exercises, R&R), staffing stats & returns, Travel & Subsistence requests and the planning and prepping
of DACS. Communication up and down the CoC and with all other working departments was vital to ensure operational tasks were executed accordingly and effectively. I also deployed on exercises with the Arty Gp close to the Latvian border which included infantry-based packages along with building clearances and navigation exercises. The Arty Gp organised various day trips to explore parts of Estonia. I was fortunate to attend a navigation exercise in Tartu where I was IC for my syndicate and a cultural day trip to Tallinn to explore Estonia’s third tallest waterfall, Keila.
Due to BG changes in location and routine, I moved over to work full time with the BG J1 Team in BGHQ and was employed as the Office Manager. In this role, I was kept busy ensuring the AGC Det members were supported, managed and provided with sufficient work distribution. Additionally, I controlled daily PERSREP, assisted with JCCC & Aeromed cases, updating the DOAST to ensure that all End of Tour (EOT) travel was precise, and I delivered briefs to the whole BG regarding reverse RACs, EOT administration and further direction points.
My time on Op CABRIT 9 ended in Jun 2022 however I have since redeployed on Op CABRIT 10 with 2 RIFLES. Op CABRIT has offered me invaluable experience in a theatre setting and I look forward to the exercises and the opportunities to experience more of Estonia’s rich culture that are yet to come.
