ETS Officers have also proved they can turn their hand to ceremonial activity; Capt Will Chapman led the AGC contingent at the Platinum Jubilee Parade, and Lt Col Stu Allen, along with Captains Josh Sleeman and Jasmine Woodford, represented the ETS during the Freedom of Winchester Parade in October – managing to enjoy the experience despite the torrential rain.
Extra-Curricular Activities Following their success on Exercise WHITE LION 2022, three ETS Officers were selected for the AGC Alpine Ski Team Lts Jen Ince and Melissa Ilic and Capt Sam Clark will all represent the AGC for the 22/23 ski season.
Our swimmers continue to do extremely well in Army level events, including Major Emellia White winning the Inter- Corps Open Water event for her age category, and Major Maz Kingston completing the English Channel Relay as part of an AGC team.
Among other sporting successes, Major Karen Owen won a silver medal at the World United Karate Federation World Championships, Maj Jim Crompton won a silver medal at the British Judo Association Championships, and 2Lt Natasha Scott came second in the Inter-services Kayaking Competition.
The Branch Conference
Our first in-person ETS Conference for two years was held in October which was a resounding success. There was a wide variety of activities, including an ETS(N) vs ETS(S) football match, a session on ‘dancing through education,’ quick-fire rounds reviewing the work of some of our Masters
RMAS cohort with HoP.
dissertations, and the opportunity to put members of the Branch Council on the spot in a Q&A session. It was a jam- packed programme culminating in a Dinner Night at absolute capacity. Whilst not everyone found their natural dancing skills, appropriately pushing our comfort zones and personal boundaries whilst experiencing new ideas is something the Branch is always keen to embrace. Sharing those experiences in an open and supportive environment demonstrates our willingness to be vulnerable and learn from each other; skills we continually encourage our students to do.
Looking to the future
While global and economic uncertainty has slowed the implementation of Future Soldier in some areas, the future of the ETS is as bright as ever. The demand for education and well-designed training to equip our soldiers for the uncertainty of the future operating environment has never been higher.
