In support of the 30th anniversary of the Corps and building on the special relationship with the City, by kind permission of the Mayor of Winchester for the fifth time since its creation in 1992, on Saturday 15th October 2022 the Adjutant General’s Corps exercised their right of Freedom of Entry in Winchester.
T
o the sound of drums from the Band of the Rifles, with swords drawn and bayonets fixed, a marching contingent comprising all Branches and veterans of the Corps stepped off from the AGC Museum in Peninsula Barracks and marched down the High Street, arriving on The Broadway in front of the Guildhall and under the watchful eye of the King Alfred statue. Alongside the Colonel Commandant and Corps Colonel, the Parade was inspected by our Deputy Colonel in Chief, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester, The Mayor of Winchester and the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.
Despite a torrential downpour of rain, spirits were not dampened, and the extensive crowd were delighted when Her Royal Highness took an impromptu ‘walk about’ and spoke to many who had braved the weather.
