In this uncertain world where a pandemic immediately switches to a large-scale invasion of a sovereign nation, putting the whole world into flux, economically and politically, we
all bear the cost of world events leading to an extraordinary cost of living crisis that affects each and every one of us.
’’
when some months later the news broke that Her Majesty had passed away, peacefully, leading to the people of the AGC once again stepping off with their best foot forward to commemorate the passing. A real contrast of moods, for Defence and the whole of the country.
Other events included the AGC 30th Festival, Commemoration Service at the NMA, Freedom of Winchester Parade and, finally, to close the 30th Anniversary events, the AGC Carol Service at Winchester Cathedral. Sport, as ever, will always be in the spotlight and with so many successes along the way, all should be proud of what they have achieved. All this activity was interspersed with other Corps HQ engagements such as pass-out parades, recognition ceremonies, mess functions, visits to units and various events, and, of course, being there for the families of those that have sadly passed.
The one constant through all this activity is our people, who are our greatest asset. Whatever we do across the Corps, they prove time and time again how ‘Wilco’ and proactive they are, whether volunteering to undertake some of the above activity or the sterling work that they do within their own establishments. It never ceases to amaze me how
professional and unfazed our people are, striving for the best, whether in barracks or operations, our people really are a credit to their cap badges.
Looking forward, it is ‘our’ people that we need to protect by actively engaging with all members of our team, understanding them as an individual as well as challenging and developing them in all areas. In this uncertain world where a pandemic immediately switches to a large-scale invasion of a sovereign nation, putting the whole world into flux, economically and politically, we all bear the cost of world events leading to an extraordinary cost of living crisis that affects each and every one of us. Therefore, it is incumbent on all of us, Private Soldier to General Officer to lead by example and endeavour to recognise the signs of those that are enduring struggle.
Maybe by just talking or maybe by signposting the way to where people can seek help and advice, please continue to be the very best that you can, and that you already are. I’ll sign-off now and watch closely as the year unfolds but, in the meantime, if you or any of your team need anything, we are here to assist.

Huge success for the AGC Ladies Volleyball, winners of the Inter-Corps Championships held at Aldershot in Jan 23.
