Key words
There are so many unfamiliar technical terms to learn. Guy says this is true even for students who have English as their first language. This new technical vocabulary is a heavy workload and it comes very quickly in the first few days. At the same time, we get details of all the assignments for the module topic, and this is another heavy load of things to read and things to write. I feel less confident now than in week one!

I can remember having this bad feeling in my first year of Geography BSc. But I learnt to manage the vocabulary workload by reviewing my notes from lectures and books so that I could add the new words to my vocabulary notebooks and check their meanings carefully. I also learnt to listen and read carefully to catch meanings, because lecturers often put them right next to the technical terms, and you can miss them.
