Task 10 Speaking loudly and clearly 10.1 Look at the meeting transcript on pages 214 and 215. Underline the words that the students use to introduce themselves and their countries.


10.2 Introduce yourself to the class using one of these patterns. Speak loudly enough for everyone to hear. The rest of the class should show they are interested in what you say.

Check in your dictionary how syllables and word stress are written. Make a list of five technical terms from your subject. Note the number of syllables and where the word stress comes. Practise saying them out loud.


Listen to an English speaker, and write down five of the words s/he says. Try to mark the word stress and the number of syllables that you hear.
