2. Inner peace meets beauty Health and beauty have merged into an inseparable entity. APAC consumers believe that beauty starts from within, and personal care products now blur the line between cosmetics and nutrition. Ingredients that promote wellbeing are at
the forefront. The boundary between food and beauty is fading, with a shared belief that beauty comes from inner health. True beauty radiates from within, and traditional beauty products can aid consumers in achieving a state of wellbeing. It involves nourishing the body through consumption and embracing soothing and engaging rituals that help boost confidence and align with their core values.
Stress relief and relaxation With the rising stress levels among APAC consumers, the growing awareness of mental health, and the need for self-care, consumers are looking for ways of uplifting themselves.5 Beauty and personal care play this role and can offer relaxation and stress relief through ingredients and usage. Stress-relief fragrances like lavender and jasmine help reduce stress and lift the mood. Besides aromatherapy, simply the act of participating in a beauty ritual can help one to relax. According to clinical psychologist Catherine J. Mills, engaging in beauty rituals makes us physically feel good. It allows a release of positive hormones
(dopamine and serotonin), which physiologically uplifts the mood and produces a sense of calm and tranquillity. In other words, beauty rituals can offer moments of happiness, relieve anxiety and stress, and introduce a sense of order in times of uncertainty. Another beauty ritual that has gained
popularity in the West is Gua Sha, a traditional Chinese technique that uses a hand-sized tool

Conscious consumption Sustainability has become a staple in the APAC personal care market, transcending from a trend to a standard. Consumers are becoming more conscious of their choices, and the industry is adapting in various ways.
Sustainable aspect Ingredients with COSMOS approval, natural and locally sourced components, and upcycled ingredients are gaining prominence. Upcycling ingredients has become an important part of
the personal care industry’s transition to a more circular, waste-free economy. Interestingly, there is evidence that some
food waste can be upcycled into polymers that help improve consistent suspension, stabilization, and texture in cosmetics and personal care. Pectin and citrus fibre, for example, can be upcycled from citrus peels and help formulators stabilize skincare products and create a range of textures, from silky and water- thin to creamy and luxe. When it comes to the formulation process,
manufacturers are reducing energy consumption through water-free formulations, solid bars, and powdered cleansers. Cold process techniques further contribute to sustainability. Waterless products minimize water
consumption, require less packaging, are lighter
