BASF is to invest in capacity expansion for cosmetic ingredients at its Düsseldorf, Germany site with a new plant to produce emollients for skin care and sun protection products. The facilities - a mid double- digit million Euro investment - are scheduled to go into operation in the third quarter of 2025. Emollients bind and maintain
skin moisture and improve the sensory properties of a personal care product. BASF says the need for special
emollients for formulations that for instance enable silicone-free skin care and octocrylene-free sun protection continues to increase in Europe. “BASF sees the growth potential
in specialties for the personal care industry in Europe and, as the market leader, we are consistently investing to support this growth with our customers,” added BASF Care Chemicals president Mary Kurian (pictured, far right). Düsseldorf is home to BASF’s

Epispot, a skincare active ingredient designed to target blemish-prone skin made from an extract of Epilobium angustifolium, also known as fireweed. Addressing the root causes

Coast Southwest buys Lubrizol surfactant plant
US speciality chemicals distributor Coast Southwest has acquired a surfactant manufacturing plant in Paso Robles, California from Lubrizol. The facility makes surfactants

is virtually in our DNA - I have had over a 30-year affiliation with this site under its present ownership and before that with prior owner Chemron Corporation,” said Coast Southwest president Joseph C. Cimo. “Acquiring Paso Robles is
extremely complementary to our business strategy of geographic and functional expansion. We believe that Coast Southwest offers the best prospects for the long-term viability of the site, its employees, and for the region economically,” he added. The terms of the deal were
not disclosed.

the official opening of Coast Southwest’s new corporate headquarters in Irving, Texas in September. “In a single month, we
