player in active ingredients, said Matic. “We are seeing very interesting dynamics in the Chinese market; there is a Chinese company in the top three suppliers of actives, botanicals and biotech categories. This was absolutely not the case ten years ago,” he said. China continues to be heavily
overrepresented in terms of sales biotech ingredients in relation to the global average, with increasingly large demand and fast-growing domestic production of synthetic peptides. This is largely due to a significant fall in the
price as a result of some peptide patents expiring in recent years. India was seen as a slower growing market
than China but having huge potential growth opportunities, particularly with botanical ingredients. “At this point, the market in India is geared towards less expensive, high-volume products but we can already see that botanicals are going to play a very important role – more important than we see for the global average.” Other speakers included Anna Balaguer,
global beauty trends manager at Provital. Balaguer echoed Matic’s comments on the rise of low-cost, high-tech peptides coming out of China, which, she said, is increasingly a leader and not a follower in the world of cosmetic ingredients. Another key theme of her global trends presentation was the rise of ‘sensational’ beauty products: warm, cold, intense skin feel and so on. Elsewhere, Bruno Malepa of Australian
contract manufacturerUA Manufacturing noted the explosive growth in interest in cosmetic ingredients originating from Australia. There has been an 150% increase in the number of products on the market mentioning Australia on the label, he said. Other key conference track sessions included
