Essemtec Synchronizes Masterclock’s Quality Designs

By Kevin Foster, Chief Operations Manager, Masterclock, Inc. F

ounded in 1994, Masterclock, Inc., is a woman-owned small business dedicated to manufacturing precise timing and synchro-

nization systems. Masterclock began in a garage in Macomb, Illinois, where the company originally manufactured timing cards for broadcasters to synchronize their automation systems. The company expanded and moved its opera-

tions to St. Charles, Missouri, in 1997. A contract to add a GPS-linked timing system to synchronize clocks inside toll booths in Bangkok, Thailand, was its first major international contract and marked the beginning of its worldwide growth. Since then, the company has grown to 20 employees with cus- tomers in more than 100 countries.

and analog clocks and synchronization devices. To keep the clocks synchronized, some systems rely on GPS, while others are linked to the internet to stay updated constantly. Some of Masterclock’s high-profile installa-

tions include multiple NASA facilities, the Vatican and the Estadio Do Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics. Also, one of Masterclock’s display clocks was on loan to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., as part of an exhibit on time’s role in navigation.

Strict Quality Standards Quality is critical to the company, because its

equipment is used in some of the world’s most time-sensitive applications. Its synchronization devices are designed and manufactured exclusive- ly in the U.S., allowing complete control of manu- facturing and design quality. The company is also careful to partner with

other companies that share its desire for top qual- ity. Essemtec is one such company, whose partner- ship with Masterclock has spanned more than eight years and two generations of equipment. Masterclock initially purchased Essemtec’s

Pantera in 2010 to increase customer response time. It gave the company the ability to change its production board schedule on the fly, which
