Juki: 80 Years and Going Strong

By Michael Skinner, Editor F

rom its very first days in busi- ness, Juki Corporation has es- poused the values of “Mon-

odzukuri,” the art of product-making through invention and deploying evo- lutionary technologies. Now in its 80th year, the com-

pany is a leading SMT placement provider, with more than 40,000 SMT placement machines shipped worldwide. Juki Corpo- ration was founded in Decem- ber 1938 when around 900 in- vestors from machinery manu- facturers in Tokyo, Japan, com- menced operations under the corporate name “TOKYO JUKI MANUFACTURERS ASSOCA- TION.”

Company History Juki’s headquarters are

located in Tokyo with sub- sidiaries worldwide. The com- pany has built a reputation as a world leader in industrial sewing machine technology and SMT assembly systems. Juki supplies over 180 nations with sewing equipment and re- lated products for the garment indus- try, which represents 67 percent of the company’s overall revenue. Since 1987, Juki has been a

leader in electronics assembly line so- lutions for the SMT industry. Juki Au- tomation Systems (JAS) is re- sponsible for the direct sales and service of Juki Corpora- tion’s SMT assembly machine business in North and South America. Juki machines are manufactured exclusively in Japan and have a reputation for high quality, excellent reli- ability and ease of use. By 1993, the company

had become a pioneer of the modular SMT assembly line. Since that time, the company has increased the speed of its machines, while maintaining the flexibility and quality that it is known for. The company is com- mitted to investing heavily in new strategic and innovative technologies to grow its market share. The company has continued to

change and evolve through the years. In 2017, Bill Astle was promoted to the position of president of JAS, Inc. “I can think of no one more qualified than Bill to follow me as president of Juki,” comments Robert J. Black, Jr., former president and CEO. “His ex- tensive experience in our industry and outstanding work ethic will allow him to guide our company to new heights. All of us at JAS are ex- cited about this move.” Juki’s strength in the SMT

placement market comes from its renowned core competency in manu- facturing. The company uses consis- tent and efficient quality manufac- turing systems to produce its ma- chines, enabling the company to con- tinually supply a high level of out- standing products.

needs. In addition, Juki has always been given accolades for outstanding support. This tradition of providing the best customer experience possi- ble will continue as we expand and continuously upgrade our line solu-

leader for many years,” states Astle. “With Bob’s great leadership, we have reached a stage where we are truly one of the world’s leading SMT smart solutions providers. We’re in- spired by our customers, listen to their desires, and plan on delivering revolutionary new products in facto- ry automation to meet their evolving

tions portfolio.” Today, Juki maintains its role

as an innovator of high-quality prod- ucts demanded by the industry, which continues to call for increased electronics density, endless package miniaturization, high efficiencies and low cost. For example, the new G-Titan

screen printer is equipped for lights- out manufacturing using onboard real-time quality print control, which sustains optimal print conditions. The printer contains a new interface with an updated look and many stan- dard features, including touchscreen LCD, stencil inspection, solder paste roll measurement, stencil lock, sup- port block crash prevention, and au- tomatic solder paste dispensing from jars or cartridges. Juki’s new Autonomous Materi-

al Handling System consists of the ISM3600 and ISM3900, an interface module, an elevator unit and AGVs, designed to work as one unit. The complete package provides the abili- ty to automatically store, retrieve, deliver, and return components
