CGI of The Forum Southend-on-Sea, opening autumn 2013

Dynamic campus environment Our Southend Campus sits just off the town’s High Street. We are home to students studying within our School of Health and Human Sciences, Essex Business School, East 15 Acting School, Professional Development Studies, and our Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies.

The Gateway Building, our main site, is a purpose-built development, which combines state-of-the-art teaching facilities, including an IT lab, open study area, rehearsal studios, medical skills labs and Students’ Union, with a business hub, health centre and retail units.

Autumn 2013 will see the opening of The Forum Southend-on-Sea, the ground-breaking £27 million partnership project, being delivered jointly by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, South Essex College and our University, to create a new state-of-the-art library and learning facilities.

Out and about The mix of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and alternative venues ensure that the town really comes to life at night. Southend-on-Sea recently received a Purple Flag* award in recognition of the quality of its nightlife and its welcoming, safe and clean seafront and High Street. During the day, coffee bars and cafés offer a cosmopolitan environment in which to enjoy your free time.

The High Street is a popular destination with an assortment of shops to satisfy most pockets, while serious shoppers can travel less than an hour to Lakeside, Bluewater or Westfield shopping centres.

Southend offers a wide variety of cultural venues, activities and events, from theatres and festivals, to the largest free air show in Europe. There is also a thriving live music scene, an impressive range of leisure facilities, and seven miles of glorious coastline offering a wealth of water sports and activities.

Well located Southend is served by two train lines and two major roads, the A13 and A127, which all run into London. The Gateway Building is adjacent to Southend Central train station, from where London’s Fenchurch Street Station can be reached in just 50 minutes. Both Stansted and Gatwick international airports are only just over an hour away, with the former directly accessible from Southend via the X30 bus service. Southend Airport, just three miles from our campus, offers budget flights to European destinations.
