 GCSE Mathematics and English Language grade C or above, or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy

MSc Nursing options  A relevant Honours degree (eg biological sciences or social sciences), minimum Lower Second Class


 At least 14 weeks of care-giving experience, in a paid or voluntary capacity

Access to this programme is supported by the NHS East of England; consequently the programme is only available to applicants who:  are classified as ‘home’ or ‘European Union’ students. In order to be classified as home or EU students must be: a) settled in the UK as a UK or EU citizen, or have indefinite leave to remain’ granted by the Home Office. ‘Settled’ means being both ordinarily resident in the UK and without immigration restriction on the length of your stay in the UK; and


b) ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK and Islands for the full three-year period before the first day of the first academic year of the programme;


 have clear Criminal Records Bureau enhanced checks;


 are assessed as fit by Occupational Health;  are successful at interview, including passing a test in numeracy and literacy; and


 have an IELTS score of at least 7.0, or equivalent, if not a native English speaker.

Fees and funding Subject to meeting UK or EU residence criteria, tuition fees for 2013 are funded by the NHS. In addition to this, you may be eligible to apply for financial support. This includes a small non-means-tested grant, a means-tested bursary from the NHS, and a reduced rate non-means-tested maintenance loan (to cover living costs) from Student Finance England. www.essex.ac.uk/hhs

Interviews


All shortlisted applicants are invited for individual interviews, which take place throughout the academic year for our September intake.


During the recruitment process we would expect you to demonstrate the core nursing values of care and compassion, as well as understanding of the scope of the role of the modern registered nurse. Literacy and numeracy testing is also undertaken at interview.
