degree or equivalent qualification. Relevant professional development and experience will also be considered
If your first language is not English, you would normally be expected to demonstrate English language proficiency to at least the following levels: iBT 88 or IELTS 6.5
Why study psychodynamic approaches at Essex? This course provides an introduction to psychodynamic understanding to prepare you for our MA Psychodynamic Counselling. It provides a route into a professional counselling qualification for a range of professionals, and for graduates from other related degree courses.
What will I learn? You learn psychodynamic theory as it relates both to individuals and organisations, psychodynamic observation skills, counselling skills, and personality development. You are also helped to develop personally to become a reflective practitioner and are introduced to counselling contexts so as to be ready to take up a clinical placement.

As a full-time student you are required to attend our University on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If you are studying part time, you attend on Wednesdays in your first year and on Tuesdays in your second year.

What career opportunities are available? This course provides you with the pre-clinical component of a full qualifying course in psychodynamic counselling. It also gives you the foundation for our MA Psychodynamic Counselling, or it could form a suitable foundation for other psychoanalytically-orientated trainings or further degrees.
