For Masters (MSc) by Dissertation You will have one principal supervisor who will have a particular interest in your area of work and, as appropriate, the supervisor may be supported by the input of an additional adviser. If you require research training, you will be able to attend a core research methods module (although you will not be expected to produce assessed work for the module). You will also be welcome to participate in and present work at our School’s seminar series.
Please Note: It is the policy of the University to register all PhD students initially as MPhil/PhD students. Assuming progress is satisfactory, confirmation of PhD students normally occurs in the first half of the second year for full-time students or in the second half of the third year for part-time students.
Support for students As a University, we offer our postgraduate research students a programme of courses and resources called Proficio. It includes everything available across our University to help you manage your research, develop your career potential, and meet and collaborate with students and staff. This includes opportunities for developing language skills, studying abroad, and enhancing your professional and personal skills.
Proficio also offers a wide range of areas and levels reflecting the national Researcher Development Framework. These range from basic computer skills and advanced data analysis, to project planning and teamwork.
