We provide four options for studying nursing, all of which lead to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and an associated academic award: three-year BSc Nursing (Adult); three-year BSc Nursing (Mental Health); two-year MSc Nursing (Adult) (pre-registration); and two-year MSc Nursing (Mental Health) (pre-registration).
How are the programmes structured? Our nursing programme with its four awards was validated by the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council in 2011 as meeting the Standards for Pre-Registration Nurse Education (2010). The programme is designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to work in contemporary health services.
During your study you develop an understanding of nursing practice and the importance of service user involvement in planning and delivering care through the programme’s core study themes: 1. Foundations in nursing practice 2. Assessing bio-psycho-social needs 3.Working in communities and public health 4. Researching health care 5.Working interprofessionally in health organisations
6.Working with those with limited capacity 7. Understanding and managing complexity in care delivery

BSc Nursing (Adult) BSc Nursing (Mental Health) Your first year develops basic skills in nursing and the context within which nurses carry out care. We also provide support with the academic requirements for study at undergraduate level. Your second year concentrates on the core skills in assessment, planning, and delivery of care for a range of patients/clients in different settings. Your third year consolidates the skills required, and focuses on the transition from student to a fit-for-purpose practitioner. Some modules are shared between the fields of adult nursing and mental health nursing, whilst others are specific to the individual field. Underpinning all of the components are the values of dignity, respect, and compassionate care.

If you possess a relevant first degree, you may be eligible to enter our fast-track MSc option.
Similarly to the BSc option, all MSc Nursing students share some common modules. However, you will quickly separate to develop your own particular branch of nursing.
Teaching and learning You will be taught by an experienced, clinically-credible team, who will use a variety of approaches to teach you, support your learning and assess your work. Teaching is delivered through supervision and mentorship, in classroom settings and through the use of self-directed study, using virtual learning environments. We recognise the importance of ensuring learning is relevant to the practice environment, so emphasis is placed on working with service users who contribute to both teaching and assessing.
Partners and placements This programme is equally split between theory and practice. This means that half your time is spent in the classroom, whilst the other half is
