Why study in our School of Health and Human Sciences? We are a multi-professional and multidisciplinary school with a reputation for providing innovative high-quality teaching in a friendly and supportive environment. We offer a range of health- and social care-related programmes at our Colchester and Southend campuses.

We aim to make a difference to the health of the nation by working with public services to continually improve the experience of service users, carers and those who work with them. The School has, at its heart, a commitment to making a difference to local, national and international public services providing transferable skills and learning. We do this through education, research and knowledge transfer.

Working in partnership with local organisations is critical to our success. We work closely with the NHS East of England, local NHS Trusts, and the independent and voluntary sectors in order to develop and deliver professionally relevant clinical programmes and modules. We also work closely with partner higher education institutions across Essex. Partnerships further afield include organisations such as the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which supports our clinical psychology training, and Barts and London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London, which supports our oral health training.

We have a sound grasp on contemporary issues in health and social care through the direct engagement of service users and staff who deliver services. This occurs through joint working and partnership activities, through service user involvement groups, knowledge transfer and through an active research agenda. Our School is part of the University of Essex, which has an externally assessed national and international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research.

We offer programmes at Foundation, Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate levels. These include innovative ‘fast track’ programmes where students can study for a Masters qualification alongside a professional registration in nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, or speech and language therapy.

We also have a strong track record in delivering continuing professional development (CPD) programmes, stand-alone modules and bespoke workshops to practising professionals. In order to complement our CPD work, we offer flexible pathways of credit accumulation. Across all of our programmes and modules we unite theory, policy and practice to provide the opportunity for students to study in an environment which is dynamic, encourages critical analysis and engages with the real world in which health and social care is delivered.
