Our staff profile reflects the multi-professional and multidisciplinary nature of the School. Many of our staff are professionally qualified as well as holding academic awards. These include nurses, dentists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, sociologists of health, psychologists, methodologists and specialists in health service management. Visiting fellows and visiting lecturers, who are experienced practitioners, provide further specialist contributions to the teaching on our programmes. In addition, we draw upon the expertise of other departments, schools and centres in the University.

Teaching methods include face-to-face lectures, classes, practical demonstrations and exercises, self-directed and problem-based learning, as well as online and distance learning. Many programmes also include periods of time on clinical placements, where you can put into practice the knowledge and skills that you have learnt.

Members of staff within our School are actively involved in research as part of their work.

In order to work towards the School’s vision, all our activities are focused on supporting you to attain clinical and academic expertise in order to maximise your current and future employability. Working closely with health and social organisations means we are aware of the needs and demands of a wide range of employers and, consequently, our programmes prepare you for future employment in these fields.

Please note that the campus on which our programmes are taught are denoted by the letters (Colchester) and (Southend), next to the programme titles.
