www.us-tech.com MatriX-FocalSpot: Advanced AXI Line-up

San Diego, CA — MatriX-FocalSpot, a unit of MatriX Technologies, is demonstrating its XT-2, XT-3, XT-6A and X3 inspection systems. The XT-2 High Resolution/High Magnification Traceable Manual X-ray Inspection System represents a new approach to the more traditional Manual X-ray Imaging (MXI) use model. Designed for ease of use and the quickest solder quality feedback, the XT-2 utilizes a more advanced automated software plat- form called MatriX Inspection Process Software (MIPS). With this software, the XT-2 can achieve full inspection traceability using bar code or man- ual product data input, automated image archival and results reporting. The XT-3 High Resolution/High Magni fication

Traceable Automated X-ray Inspection System uti- lizes the same MatriX Inspection Process Software (MIPS) as the XT-2. While the XT-3 is easily and quickly used in manual inspection mode it can also be used in a fully automated inspection process with the exception of “manual- ly” loading and unloading the printed circuit assembly. The XT-6A Fully Automated X-

ray Inspection System with Off-Line Conveyor is highly flexible, with a par- allel-kinematic Hexaglide manipula- tion unit that allows extreme off-axis (2.5D) X-ray transmission in the small- est of space with maximum speed and in high resolution. This technology is especially suitable for high-quality X- ray analysis of electronic assemblies as well as material analysis of parts, where flexible part manipulation with multiple inspection angles is needed. The patented Hexapod concept with all

Hitachi: G5S Mounter Has Self-Loading SL Feeders

Dallas, TX — Hitachi’s new Sigma G5S is reportedly faster, more capable and offers double the accuracy of the company’s flagship G5 modular mounter. The G5S’ two-head place- ment system, plus Hitachi’s Over - drive Control System, enables a high level of flexibility and configurability in addition to high speed. The G5S also offers the company’s new LED placement via die recognition technol- ogy for optimum lighting performance from every LED assembly. The mach - ine’s multi-function head in cludes an array of features: new lead-clinching

6-axes moving fully independently guarantees pre- cise motion including Planar CT imaging perform- ance. The XT-6A also boasts automatic load/unload setup.

The X3 In-Line 3D X-ray Inspection System

combines two imaging technologies, high-speed, high resolution transmission (2D) and off-axis (2.5D) with two unique reconstruction techniques to address X-ray inspection of double-sided boards with high package densities. The X3 provides a flexible approach to inspecting solder joints on a double- sided board. The system is suitable for high-speed double-sided inspection using the patented SFT™ technique to separate top and bottom solder joints. In addition, the X3 provides a new approach for high-resolution multiple slice requests for BGAs and

LGAs using the MatriX 3D-SART technology. Contact: MatriX-FocalSpot, Inc., 9915

Metcal’s Digital Hot Air Pencil

INTRODUCING The HCT2-120 Hot Air Pencil is the latest addition to Metcal’s offering of

convection rework tools. This digital handheld convection tool is ideally suited for applications which use smaller components and integrated circuits.

As component miniaturization continues, the ergonomics of a pencil allow a user more freedom to access and rework components on the board, without affecting adjacent parts.

functionality and tamping; it can also utilize an array of mechanical grip nozzles to automate manual tasks. The new self-loading SL-feeders are “splice-less”; they eliminate produc- tion interruptions once required for reel splicing. These innovative reel and strip tape 8mm feeders make the production flow continuous, efficient, and automated; there’s no longer a

need for operator intervention. Contact: Hitachi High
