Essemtec Intros First Combo Assembler and Solder Paste Jet Printer
Glassboro, NJ — Essemtec, the Swiss manufacturer of production systems for electronic assembly and packag- ing, has introduced its new SMT pro- duction centre. Essemtec is the first manufacturer that developed a com-
machine. Production is fully automat- ed, and solder paste application and component placement are seamlessly integrated while process monitoring ensures high-quality results. The company’s solder jet printer
is fast (up to 80,000 dots/hr), very pre- cise (51µm at 3 sigma) and suitable for 0201 components. So far, jetting of solder pastes was possible only with limitations; manufacturers needed to buy specially designed, costly solder pastes. Essemtec has merged its dispensing and pick-and- place know-how from the Scorpion and Paraquda machines into an SMT production centre. Elastomer Socket from Ironwood for QFPs
Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics has introduced a new high-perform- ance elastomer socket for 0.5mm pitch QFN package. The SG-MLF-7079 socket is designed for an 8 x 8 x 0.8mm package size and operates at band- widths up to 10GHz with less than 1dB of insertion loss. The contact re- sistance is typically 20 milliohms per pin. The socket connects all pins with 10GHz bandwidth on all connections. The socket is mounted using supplied hardware on the target PCB with no soldering, and occupies smallest foot- print in the industry. This small foot- print allows inductors, resistors and decoupling capacitors to be placed very close to the device for impedance tun- ing. The socket also incorporates a simple hardware installation method so that ICs can be changed out quick- ly, and it has an opening in the middle for accessing the die and for thermal characterization purposes. The SG-MLF-7079 sockets are
constructed with high performance and low inductance elastomer con- tactors. The temperature range is –35 to +100°C. The pin self-induc- tance is 0.15nH and mutual induc- tance of 0.025nH. Capacitance to ground is 0.01pF. Current capacity is

installed on existing machine plat- forms, such as the Scorpion high- speed jet dispenser or the Paraquda component placer. The combination of jet printing with pick-and-place elimi- nates the need to program two differ- ent machines and reduces the invest- ment costs dramatically. The return on investment (ROI) of the jet print- ing option is achieved with less than 100 stencils and even faster when the products require stepped stencils. Cleaning of the valve is an easy and quick task requiring just 5-10 min- utes. Essemtec is the only manufac- turer to cover the entire production
