Zeiss Licenses Lumencor for
LED Fluorescence Excitation Jena, Germany — Zeiss has granted a license for patents relating to LED fluo- rescence excitation in microscopy to Lumencor, Inc., Beaverton, Oregon. These patents protect the use of LEDs for the excitation of fluorescence radiation in light microscopes. The property rights, which are valid in the USA and Canada, were acquired by Zeiss in 2005. Zeiss uses this technology in a number of prod- ucts such as iLED-module, Axio Scope with integrated LED illumination for flu- orescence applications and Colibri.2 for a wide range of applications extending from routine to high-end microscopy. The users benefit from the optimum flex- ibility and maximum specimen protection offered by the LEDs as light sources
