96 Friday 13.09.13 theibcdaily Broadcast Box is open FOR-A By Heather McLean
Launching here in Amsterdam is a flood of products from FOR-A.
The new MINI M/E, offered as a standard feature of the HVS-390HS 2 M/E vision mixer, enables the mixer to deliver the power of a virtual six M/E mixer. The MINI M/E extension allows the deployment of any aux bus transition with cuts, mixes or wipes, and to display a keyer complete with DVE functions. The BB-100 Broadcast Box
represents a new FOR-A product range of video servers that provide recording and playout of multiformat video files. Available as play, record and play/record models,
Broadcast Box aims to offer versatility and ease of use at a competitive price. Broadcast Box can be used standalone to offer video recording and/or studio playout. It can also work directly with vision mixers and, when integrated with a digital FOR-A vision mixer, such as the popular HVS-390HS, can provide a flexible video/audio contribution feed. The FA-1010 is a general- purpose multichannel frame synchroniser, and is equipped with many functions that are required in video production. Notably it allows asynchronous signal path routing for up to 10 channels of video, and up to 160 channels of embedded audio, with clean-cut synchronised outputs, all within a 1RU box. The FA-9520 is a dual-
channel multipurpose signal processor. It is equipped for a variety of applications in master control, mobile production, post production services, live production, and more.
The FA-9250 is a dual- channel version of the FA-9500 processor and it supports 3G-SDI, HD/SD-SDI, and analogue composite I/O. In addition to frame synchronisation, it provides up/down/cross/aspect conversion, two channels of full RGB colour correction, logo inserter functions and an automatic video optimiser (AVO) as standard. And finally, the new HVS-XT HD/SD compact vision mixer series is designed for live events, news studios, OB vans and corporate production. 2.A51
TV Everywhere: No mean feat
Accedo By Anne Morris
TV Everywhere services allow any pay-TV company to service new and existing subscribers via their existing connected devices. This saves investment costs in hardware and, if well implemented, provides improved consumer experience. However, Michael Lantz, CEO of Accedo, said the challenge to implement TV Everywhere services is significant. “In addition to the obvious challenges of content rights and providing high quality video to new connected devices, we see a number of issues that can be overcome with a better use of TV Everywhere solutions,” Lantz commented.
Lantz pointed out that the number of connected devices is growing rapidly all over the world. “The challenge is of course to

and a guaranteed functionality,” he said. “Platforms are fragmented, and new devices are introduced to the market over time to further add to the complexity.”
The best way to combat this, Lantz added, is through a suite of off-the-shelf applications, which can be quickly reskinned and deployed on any connected device on the market, making it possible for pay-TV providers to launch new services quickly and easily. However, it’s not only about deploying TV Everywhere applications once; it’s also about ensuring quality over time as new firmware is introduced and new generations of devices are launched. 14.112
MADI-capable confidence monitor launched TSL Products
By Will Strauss TSL Products has launched a
new MADI-capable studio audio monitor. The SAM1 3GM+MADI is designed for both fixed and mobile broadcast facilities and can monitor up to 20 channels of audio from MADI, embedded
HD-SDI, AES and analogue sources on a user-configurable screen. TSL Products’ head of audio, Martin Dyster, revealed that the monitor’s design was based on
a period of intense market consultation.
“The main concern was how working in a mixed multichannel environment that includes HD- SDI, MADI, AES and analogue
audio makes quality assurance tricky,” he said. “The SAM1 3GM+MADI is perfect for sound engineers checking on the integrity of their MADI signals or broadcast studio engineers who use MADI to transport multiple channels of audio around a facility.”
The SAM1 3GM+MADI allows a user to create a tailor-made monitoring panel that gives them access to the channels that they need via a rotary control. Channels can be defined as being mono, stereo or 5.1 down-mixed group via a single button press with a simple colour scheme for instant user recognition of the channel configuration. Multiple signals can be mixed together and individual mix levels adjusted, if required, to create a personal monitoring environment. Ethernet capabilities, a USB connector and an SD card slot are included.10.B41
