Grass Valley’s K2 Summit and K2 Solo have become the first broadcast servers to support

Panasonic’s new AVC-LongG compression. AVC-LongG recording is part of Panasonic’s new AVC-Ultra codec, and should be useful for

ENG production or other applications where file size is critical. It can record up to 10-bit 4:2:2 video in much smaller files, saving storage costs and transfer times over MPEG-2 while maintaining equal or better video quality. Grass Valley’s new Edius 7

editing software also supports AVC-LongG. “We believe that AVC-LongG content captured by the Panasonic AJ-PX5000 P2 cameras and AJ-PD500 recorders will enhance data transfer efficiency while maintaining high

video quality, allowing us to provide our customers with an improved workflow,” said Kunihiko Miyagi, director of Panasonic’s Imaging Business Division. Software upgrades are available for K2 models sold within the past year. Older versions of K2 Summit will be field-upgradable.

English Premier League tracks player data

ChyronHego

By Carolyn Giardina The English Premier League has chosen ChyronHego’s TRACAB image-based tracking system to deliver realtime player tracking data across the entire league. This will span all 380 matches per season over a three-year term. The TRACAB systems – deployed at the start of the 2013/2014 season – are installed in all 20 stadia of the competing teams in the Barclays Premier League and produce 3D positional data and live speeds for all players, referees, assistant referees, and the ball. “We are delighted to be working with the Premier League in helping to enhance its live football coverage,” said President and COO of ChyronHego, Johan Apel. “Our TRACAB technology offers a quick and efficient method for collecting critical sports-related data — and the end result is a more engaging experience for viewers and valuable data for many other interested parties.” TRACAB uses advanced image-processing technology to determine the position of all moving objects in the field of play at a rapid 25 times per second. The result is a live data feed that contains all the X, Y and Z positional coordinates for each identified object. The data can then be streamed in an open format to a multitude of visualisation platforms such as broadcast graphics systems, online and mobile platforms, and can also be used to prepare comprehensive sets of performance statistics for sports analysts. TRACAB’s true, realtime data collection opens up many new possibilities for clubs, media rights holders and fans. 7.D11
