Nautel By Paul Watson

All India Radio (AIR) is utilising Nautel in its transition to DRM digital AM – a project which involves 4.9 Megawatts total of transmission power. Nautel has begun

deployment of 27 medium wave AM transmitters and associated equipment ordered earlier this year by India’s Prasar Bharati. The orders for 100 kW, 200 kW and 300 kW DRM-enabled

Learning driven by Creative Commons Autodesk

By Carolyn Giardina Autodesk’s Media & Entertainment support and learning content for its 2014 product range is now available under Creative Commons (CC) licensing; that equates to 20,000 pages of documentation, 70 videos and 140 downloadable 3D asset files. Creative Commons is part of Autodesk’s support of students’ pursuit of careers in science, technology,

engineering and math (STEM) fields. “The new digital world is forging powerful networked communities of people eager to share their knowledge and expertise and to mentor each other, and we can play an important part in making that happen,” said Autodesk senior VP, Chris Bradshaw. “With Creative Commons, we are adopting an easy-to- follow legal infrastructure for the worldwide user community to effectively share knowledge. I can’t wait to see what artists create: a Finnish translation of new Maya software features or an independent school in Bangladesh teaching 3D animation — the possibilities are limitless.” Added Creative Commons CEO, Cathy Casserly: “The power of the internet lies in how easy it is for people to share and build on each other’s work.” 7.D25

transmitters are being installed for AIR and comprise the world’s largest digital radio deployment to date. All transmitters in the system are being configured for DRM30 transmission and will be used in 27 locations throughout India.

Engineers from AIR were at the Nautel factory in Hackett’s Cove, Nova Scotia in early August to begin factory acceptance testing of the first transmitters in the order. Three 300kW NX300s and a 200kW NX200 have been accepted;

and four 100kW NX100 transmitters are scheduled for testing at the end of the month. The NX200 is now shipping, and its installation in Delhi, scheduled to begin in late October, will kick off the deployment in India.

Nautel is presenting its latest Medium Wave, FM and TV transmitters, and will host a DRM event on its IBC stand tomorrow from 15:00-17:00. The event is entitled ‘DRM listeners: Building a Billion’. 8.C61
