36 Friday 13.09.13 theibcdaily Cloud research rewarded

At the IBC Awards Ceremony on Sunday night, a special award will be given to a major collaborative project that is looking at the real, practical applications of cloud

technology in media. As well as developing principles it is also making a practical contribution, with the Italian national broadcaster RAI already using the fruits of the research in its news production workflows. Vision Cloud is an

international project, organised under the European Commission’s FP7 research and innovation programme. It

brings together users, vendors and academics to form an understanding of the prospects for cloud services and how they can be practically implemented. As well as RAI the group also includes Deutsche Welle, to express the broadcaster’s view. The rest of the team are Engineering Ingeneria Informatica (Italy), France Telecom, IBM Haifa Research Lab, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (Greece), iTricity (Netherlands), SAP, Siemens, SNIA Europe (UK), Swedish Institute of Computer Science, Telefónica

Investigación y Desarrollo (Spain), Telenor (Norway), Umeå University (Sweden) and the University of Messina (Italy). With Vision Cloud’s scalable,

resilient architectures now powering cross-media news production workflows, it will be a representative of RAI who actually hoists the trophy aloft on Sunday night. He will be joined on stage by representatives of the other 14 organisations, demonstrating the collaborative power of this project. The IBC Awards Ceremony takes place on Sunday evening from 18:30. It is a fun and fast-
