signals budget box Phabrix

By Michael Burns

A new addition to the Phabrix handheld test and measurement line is being unveiled at IBC. The Phabrix TAG is designed as an entry level device, configured with a range of interfaces from analogue up to 3G-SDI. According to Paul Nicholls, sales and marketing director of Phabrix, the TAG supports optical networks and is a different colour to the present Sx range, though it shares an

easy to use GUI and focused toolset with that portable 3G/HD/SD-SDI portable video test signal generator. The price is as yet

unconfirmed, but Phabrix is specifically targeting the TAG at those making the transition to digital with small budgets “We were looking to support the many enquiries we receive from India, Asia and South America where funding is lower than in Western markets,” said Nicholls. “However we think it will find a home in every broadcaster worldwide where budgets are tight.” 8.E35

Viewers experience tightrope walk Broadcast Sports Inc

By Ian McMurray During the summer, high-wire artist Nik Wallenda crossed the Grand Canyon on a tightrope suspended 1500 feet above the Little Colorado River – and Broadcast Sports Inc (BSI) enabled viewers to experience the event from his perspective. BSI outfitted Wallenda with a

vest equipped with two wireless POV cameras, and provided wireless camera links with remote camera control for a Sony P1 Steadicam, a Sony HDC-2500 handheld camera, a Sony P1 horizontal cable camera provided by Sea to Sky Cable Camera and the two BSI 1080i mini POV cameras on Wallenda’s vest. BSI also provided a wireless camera link for a Cineflex HD helicopter camera supplied by Helivision.

In addition to the wireless camera links, the company also supplied many of the wireless audio and communication components for the broadcast including three BSI MIC1500 wireless microphones, five talent packs and three belt packs plus 100 handheld radios. BSI provided a high power back-up system for the wireless microphone and wireless IFB communications from NBC that was worn by Wallenda. 5.A09
