Finally, Rumney announced that the commission had donated $25,000 to the USO to purchase a USO2GO kit, which contains everything from chicken noodle soup to electronic games to sports equipment, for US troops serving at Forward Operating Base Shinwar in Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan. Rumney played a brief video that showed the troops enjoying the Elks’ gift. Andrew Milwid reported on the BPO Elks Disaster Relief Fund and told delegates that the fund had given $119,900 in emergency relief to state associations in Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts, Missouri, and North Carolina to distribute to victims of the summer’s tornadoes. He noted that Elks responded generously to GER Smith’s call for donations resulting in about $61,000 contributed to the fund by the start of the convention. Following Wednesday’s business session, the Elks and their guests held a solemn Memorial Service to remem- ber the members who passed away during the previous year. The cer- emony included a special eulogy for Past Grand Exalted Ruler Raymond V. Arnold.
