Lakewood, CO, Lodge members honored Stober Elementary School students Dominica Garcia and Austin Scott for finishing second and third, respectively, in the fifth- and sixth- grade division of the state Americanism Essay Contest and presented each of them with a certificate and a savings bond worth $75 for second place and $50 for third place. In other news, the lodge donated $200 to Boy Scout Troop No. 583 to help the scouts take a six-day canoeing trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Minnesota.
Ventura, CA, Lodge members partici- pated in a Relay for Life fund-raising event and raised $1,200 for the American Cancer Society. Lodge members also treated 60 cancer survivors and 60 other guests to lunch before the event.
Boulder, CO, and Longmont, CO, Lodges, with the help of Young Marines from the Flatiron Detach-

ment and Legionnaires from an American Legion post, held a Flag- Retirement Ceremony, which about 150 people attended, and properly disposed of about 150 worn and damaged US flags.
Central Northwest District, CO, lodges held a Flag-Retirement Cer- emony at the Westminster Lodge and respectfully disposed of 36 worn and
Durango, CO, Lodge members assisted in creating the annual Safety Town, which is a miniature town used to offer safety instruction to children, ages four to seven, over nine days at Needham Elementary School. Lodge members transported the installa- tion’s structures from their place of storage at the lodge, set them up, and later took them down and returned them to storage. The lodge also donated $1,500 to help run the program, in which 120 children from the area participated.
Montrose, CO, Lodge members awarded a $2,000 scholarship to Olathe High School student Cole Ready and awarded $1,000 scholar- ships to eight other students. Lodge members also presented a $1,000 Colorado State Grant scholarship, which is funded by an ENF grant to the Colorado Elks Association, to Montrose High School student Jessica Dunham. Additionally, lodge members gave each scholarship recipient a certificate and treated the ten recipi- ents and their parents to dinner.
