GL Elks Memorial Service Contest C

HE Grand Lodge has mandated that the first Sunday in December be set aside as the day for all lodges to hold a Memorial Service for departed members. The Elks Memorial Service Contest has been established to recognize the efforts of the members who work so hard to make Elks Memorial Services successful and unforgettable events. What does it take to win the Elks Memorial Service Contest C? Entering is the first step. However, there are a few things you need to remember when preparing your entry. You must document your Memorial Service with both text and photo-

T

graphs. Submit the text in the form of newspaper articles, invitations, and event notices, and accompany it with a chronologically arranged general description of the event. Photograph all aspects of the event, making certain that you do not disturb the integrity or solemnity of the service. Once you have collected all of your documentation, arrange it in a

logical, chronological format in a three-ring binder no more than four inches in thickness. The binder should also contain a letter from your lodge secretary attesting to your lodge membership as of March 31, 2011. Submit your entry to this committee member, postmarked on or before February 15, 2012.

The Elks Memorial Service Contest is very competitive. But don’t let that deter you. Please take the time to compile a record of your lodge’s Memorial Service and enter the contest. Your entry will become a piece of lodge history, and if it is recognized by the Grand Lodge, it will serve to honor the officers and members of your lodge for all the time and effort they expended preparing and executing the Memorial Service. If you do not understand the contest, contact your district deputy, state Lodge Activities Committee chairman, or the GL Lodge Activities/State Associations Committee member from your area.
