Merced, CA, Lodge members honored three scouts from lodge-sponsored Cub Scout Pack No. 1240 for finishing first, second, and fourth in a Pinewood Derby competition. Hemet, CA, Lodge members honored the memory of US Army SPC Ronnie J. Pallares during a patriotic cer- emony at the lodge and presented the Elks Medal of Valor to his family in honor of his sacrifice. Specialist Pallares was assigned to the 27th Engineer Battalion when he died in Afghanistan on October 23, 2010. Lodge members also presented a patriotic quilt to the Pallares family during a later ceremony.


In other news, lodge members pre- sented a patriotic quilt to husband US Navy PO3 Michael Stephan and wife PO2 Michelle Stephan, who had both just returned from duty overseas. In more news, lodge members visited four nursing homes on Father’s

In more news, lodge members, with the help of Antlers Program members, treated 700 participants in a Relay for Life fund-raiser to a barbecue dinner. The lodge’s 12-person team also raised $5,000 for Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. Lodge members also treated about 1,400 people with special needs and caregivers to lunch during Friends Helping Friends Day at the Merced County Fair, which is a daylong event at the fair for people with special needs.

La Habra, CA, Lodge members honored US Marine Corps Cpl Jake Olquin during a ceremony at the lodge and thanked him for his service at FOB Delaram in Afghanistan.


Los Banos, CA, Lodge provided lunch to about 200 police officers who attended a Los Banos Police Depart- ment training session.


In other news, the lodge became the sponsor of Daisy Scout Troop No. 3193 and donated the use of its lodge grounds to the troop so that it could hold its semimonthly meetings.


Moreno Valley, CA, Lodge donated $1,500 to the family of two children,


ages six months and four years, who required bone marrow transplants to treat a rare genetic disorder.


Orange, CA, Lodge donated nearly $5,000 to local charities, including youth activities and charities that assist needy people, vulnerable women, cancer victims, and senior citizens. Among the donations was a $500 donation to the Joplin, MO, Lodge to help it rebuild after a devastating tornado. Lodge members also awarded $700 worth of savings bonds to the winners of their Ameri- canism Essay Contest and awarded scholarships worth a total of $3,500 to four high school students. In other news, lodge members honored Orange Police Department K-9 Officer Hondo and his trainer, Officer Ryan Johnson, in a ceremony at the lodge.
