In other news, lodge members attended Court of Honor Ceremonies for new Eagle Scouts Tyler Boone and Ryan Brown, of Boy Scout Troop No. 381, and Colin Sutherland, of Boy Scout Troop No. 380, and presented each of them with a US flag and a certificate. For his Eagle Scout Project, Boone built a shelving unit for the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church’s library and cut cards for the library’s planned card catalog. Brown’s Eagle Scout Project consisted of building two platforms, which consisted of eight concrete columns, steel framing, and a containment fence, to support air conditioning units at the Old Gregg School Community and Recreation Center. Sutherland, for his Eagle Scout Project, painted the exterior of Zion Lutheran Church’s youth building and repaired two flower boxes located on the exterior of the building.

Leechburg, PA, Lodge members awarded their $500 Book and Supply Scholarship to Leechburg Area Jr./Sr. High School graduate Jennifer Queck.


Norristown, PA, Lodge members honored new Eagle Scouts Michael Cerrato, of Boy Scout Troop No. 313, Mike Fatula, of Boy Scout Troop No. 406, Kunal Jha, of Boy Scout Troop No. 133, and Harry Oehler, of Boy Scout Troop No. 87, during a patriotic ceremony and gave each of them a certificate and a US flag. During the same ceremony, the lodge held an Alex’s Lemonade Stand fund-raiser and raised more than $100 for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.

Newport, RI, Lodge members honored Newport Police Department Community Police Officer James Winters as their Citizen of the Year during a dinner held in his honor and presented him with a plaque in recognition of his more than 25 years of distinguished service to the community. Red Lion, PA, Lodge held its second annual Golf Outing and raised more than $4,600 for the state major project, the Pennsylvania Elks Home Service Program, which provides in- home therapy at no charge to children with special needs.


Titusville, PA, Lodge members awarded scholarships worth a total of $1,000 to Titusville High School students Darin Barnhart, Veronica Ditty, and Dorothy Stromdahl.


West Shore, PA, Lodge held a Flag- Retirement Ceremony and retired four worn and damaged US flags.


Bristol County, RI, Lodge donated a $3,000 grant from the Rhode Island Foundation to the lodge’s East Bay Cares Program, which provides nonperishable food items to local food pantries and soup kitchens.


Murrells Inlet, SC, Lodge members shipped more than $900 worth of toiletries, socks, cookies, and other useful items to US Marines serving in Afghanistan.


Knoxville, TN, Lodge hosted its annual Scout Appreciation Dinner, honored 16 new Eagle Scouts and seven Girl Scouts who had earned the Gold Award, gave each of the scouts a certificate, and treated the scouts, their parents, and their scout lead- ers—a total of approximately 70 people—to dinner.


In other news, the lodge, with the help of members of the US Army Reserve’s 844th Engineer Battalion, held a Flag-Retirement Ceremony and respectfully disposed of more than 2,000 worn and damaged US flags. Lodge members gave each of the 200 people who attended the ceremony a small US flag and a pamphlet explain- ing the history and importance of the flag and treated the attendees to a barbecue meal.


Brenham, TX, Lodge donated $2,800 to student Matthew Reaves to help him participate in the People to People Ambassador Program, which had arranged for him to visit Greece and Italy as part of its program.


Denton, TX, Lodge held a Brother-2- Brother fund-raiser, which featured dinner, auctions, and raffles and drew about 100 attendees, and raised about $4,000 to help a lodge member deal with serious health issues. In other news, a lodge member presented a four-year, $5,000 Texas Elks State Association scholarship to high school student Allison Henry. In more news, the lodge donated a US flag, a scouting flag, and two flagpoles to the Frontier Trails District of the Longhorn Council of the Boy Scouts of America.


Katy, TX, Lodge held its semiannual Best Buddies Dance for participants in the Best Buddies Program, which builds one-on-one friendships between
