Elks Care— Elks Share


Cahaba Valley, AL, Lodge members, with the help of a $10,000 ENF Impact Grant, gave nearly 140 comfort care kits, each of which contains diabetic socks, a blanket, gloves, and other small items, to patients being treated for diabetes. Lodge members also distributed 130 snack packs containing diabetic-safe goodies to diabetes patients, gave 100 gift bags containing cookies, a gift card, and a thank-you note to the patients’ caregivers, and installed five park benches at diabetes treatment centers.


Fairbanks, AK, Lodge donated a $1,000 ENF Gratitude Grant to the Blood Bank of Alaska to cover the cost of the bank’s booth at the Tanana Valley State Fair.


Ajo, AZ, Lodge donated nearly 130 pounds of supplies and $300 to assist victims of the tornado in Joplin, MO. The lodge also donated $400 to the Ajo-Gibson Volunteer Fire Depart- ment, $375 to the Hook a Kid on Golf Program, which teaches golf to sixth- grade students, and $150 to help put on the local Fourth of July festivities. The lodge PER Association donated an additional $200 to help with the Fourth of July celebrations.


Casa Grande Valley, AZ, Lodge members treated approximately 60 people who attended a patriotic ceremony, including the members of Civil Air Patrol Squadron No. 316, to lunch at the lodge.


Catalina Mountain, AZ, Lodge held a series of fund-raisers that raised nearly $21,000 for Special Olympics Arizona. The events were a Polar

Apache Junction, AZ, Lodge held its annual Special Olympics Sock Hop and treated 40 Special Olympians to dinner and dancing, with prizes for the best dancers. The lodge also donated two bowling ramps, which allow people who cannot bowl normally to participate in bowling events, to Special Olympics Arizona–East Valley Area. Plunge, a pancake breakfast, a dinner, a golf tournament, and a combined concert, raffle, and auction.


Chino Valley, AZ, Lodge members attended a Court of Honor Ceremony for new Eagle Scout Jonathan Argile and gave him a certificate. For his Eagle Scout Project, Argile created a small museum for Chino Valley High School by building platforms and creating explanatory plaques for antique farm equipment.


Gilbert, AZ, Lodge donated $430 to Packages from Home, a charity that ships care packages to US troops serving overseas, to help cover shipping expenses.


Green Valley, AZ, Lodge held a Memorial Day at the Races fund- raiser, which featured mock horse races and a raffle, and raised $400 for the Elks National Foundation. In other news, the lodge, with the


help of five US Customs and Border Protection officers, held a Flag- Retirement Ceremony and retired the lodge’s worn US flag.


Kingman, AZ, Lodge, in cooperation with a local sports club and the Arizona Game and Fish Department, held its annual Fishing for Smiles event and treated more than 170 children to a day of fishing in a pond that had been stocked with 1,000 pounds of catfish. Lodge members gave each child who attended the event a rod, a reel, and a bag full of other fishing items and treated the children and their parents to a barbecue lunch.


In other news, lodge members treated more than 100 children attending a local kite-flying event to a barbecue lunch.


Atascadero, CA, Lodge, with the help of scouts from lodge-sponsored Boy Scout Troop No. 150, held a Flag-
