KEY FAC T Recent research has found convincing evidence that students from lower socio- economic groups benefit substantially from the UCD access supports.
Students from Economic or Socially Disadvantaged Backgrounds If you are keen to pursue a university education but are not in a position to do so for a variety of financial or social reasons, then the UCD Access Centre offers you that opportunity. Applications to UCD are managed through the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR). Supports for students include: A Compulsory pre-entry Orientation Programme
A Academic supports
A Financial supports (based on need and availability of resources)
A Personal and social supports

Mature Students UCD welcomes mature learners, and the number of older students undertaking degree programmes continues to grow. If you are keen to pursue a university education at a later stage in your life then the UCD Access Centre offers you that opportunity. We provide a range of services to assist mature students, including: information sessions for prospective students at UCD Open Days; pre-enrolment Critical Writing Academy; Mature Students Orientation Day; and advice and guidance on academic, personal and practical issues.
Applicants must apply for their preferred pro- gramme through the CAO. Intending applicants should consult the UCD booklet Application on the Grounds of Mature Years for Entry in 2012/2013, available from
admissions@ucd.ie, and also at
www.ucd.ie/myucd/mature from the October preceding entry. For further information on making an applica-
tion on the grounds of mature years, please see page 178 or Email:

UCD also offers mature learners a variety of courses to get them started in higher educa- tion and provide them with specific preparation for life in University. Te UCD Adult Education Centre offers two access programmes: A Access to Arts & Human Sciences
A Access to Science & Engineering
Access programmes provide an alternative entry route to study at degree level in UCD. Mature students who achieve the required academic standard in their assessment are guaranteed entry to specific programmes in UCD in the following academic year (subject to normal CAO procedures). Tese programmes suit all learners who wish to boost both confidence and study skills before entering university. Potential applicants may make application directly to UCD.
