Why is this course for me? If you want to work on solutions to the world’s energy problems then Energy Systems Engineering is the course for you. Te pro- gramme prepares you to meet the engineering, economic and environmental challenges of the future. Tis programme focuses on the interde- pendence between electricity systems, building energy systems, the industrial production sys- tem, the food supply chain and the transport system. Te Government has identified future energy


needs as a national priority. Tis degree pro- gramme aims to educate high calibre engineers who can find solutions to both Ireland’s and the world’s energy problems.


What will I study? First Year


A common first year introduces rigorous train- ing in the fundamentals of engineering before students specialise. Sample modules for Energy Systems Engineering students include:

My favourite subjects at second level were physics and maths, so it seemed a natural choice to study Engineering and where better to study it than at the largest university in Ireland! As a UCD engineering student of any discipline you’ll


find that on any given day you could spend your time doing a wide range of activities, ranging from lectures and tutorials to handling heavy duty electrical machinery in labs. Studying an energy-related field at UCD will leave you well placed at the forefront of the industries that will be tasked with solving the energy challenges facing the world. It will give you a long and fulfilling career in an area that is becoming ever more relevant.
