5. EU Applicants Every EU country is currently repres- ented amongst UCD’s student body. Application for EU and EEA applicants is made via the CAO (www.cao.ie). Applicants must meet normal matricu- lation and entry requirements. Detailed information for each country is avail- able at www.ucd.ie/myucd/eu. (See also the section on International Students on page 26.)

6. Non-EU Applicants UCD welcomes applicants from non- EU countries. An application is made via www.ucd.ie/apply except where an agent is used. Further information on appli- cation and entry requirements is avail- able at www.ucd.ie/myucd/noneu or on request from UCD Registry Admissions (admissions@ucd.ie).

7. Alternative Selection Procedures

(a) ‘DARE’ Disability Access Route to Education

Te Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) is a supplementary admissions scheme for school leavers with disabili- ties. DARE has been set up by a number of colleges and universities as clear evidence shows that disability can have a nega- tive impact on how well a student does at school and whether they go on to college.

School leavers who meet the eligibility criteria compete for a quota of places allo- cated to applicants on a reduced points basis in UCD. All applicants must meet the Irish Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) matriculation/minimum entry and sub- ject requirements. Who Should Apply to DARE?

DARE is for school leavers (under 23 years old as at 1 January 2012) who have the ability to benefit from and succeed in higher education but who may not meet the points for their preferred course due to the impact of a disability.

How to Apply to DARE? STEP 1

School leavers must apply to the CAO at www.cao.ie by 17:15 on 1 February 2012.

STEP 2

School leavers must disclose a dis- ability/specific learning difficulty on the CAO application form by 1 March 2012. Applicants are then directed to a separate online Supplementary Information Form which asks for additional information about the disability or specific learning dif- ficulty. Applicants must complete Section A of the Supplementary Information Form and apply to DARE by 17:15 on 1 March 2012.

STEP 3

Applicants must return the Second Level Academic Reference and Evidence of Disability to arrive at CAO by 17:15 on 1 April 2012.

Note: Students who accept places in UCD through DARE must register with the UCD Access Centre Disability Support.

More Information

More information on DARE is available from your school Guidance Counsellor or from the UCD Access Centre. Information can also be found on: www.accesscollege. ie, www.cao.ie and www.ucd.ie/access.

(b) Application on Grounds of Mature Years

If you are at least 23 years of age on or before 1 January 2012, you may apply on the grounds of mature years.

In general, applicants are selected on the basis of academic aptitude, relevant work and life experience, and evidence of moti- vation and interest in the programme area. Tese areas should be addressed in the written application. (In order to assist with this, templates for personal statements are available at www.ucd.ie/ myucd/mature.)

Each UCD College/School has specific cri- teria governing the assessment of appli- cations on the grounds of mature years. For some programmes, shortlisted appli- cants are interviewed. It is important that applicants consult the UCD Applic- ations on the Grounds of Mature Years book- let (www.ucd.ie/myucd/mature) prior to making an application.

Applications will be considered for admis- sion to most undergraduate degree pro- grammes. Veterinary Medicine does not have a mature student entry route, but a graduate entry route is available. Full details are available in the above booklet.

Application should be made before 1 February 2012, through the Central Applications Office (www.cao.ie). Late application up to 1 May 2012 is permitted for some programmes, subject to availabil- ity of places.

Te applicant must ensure that copies of all relevant information, for example certificates, transcripts and a personal statement, are included with the CAO application.

For further advice and guidance, contact mature.students@ucd.ie Tel +353 1 716 1555

Admission on the grounds of mature years is competitive. Applicants who are unsuccessful in gaining admission on the grounds of mature years are also assessed on the basis of their school leaving quali- fications (if provided) in competition with other applicants.

All applicants* intending to apply for Arts (including part time and denomi- nated programmes) and Social Science in 2012, on the grounds of mature years, will be required to take the Mature Students Admissions Pathway (MSAP) test as part of the selection process (http://msap.acer.edu.au/). Tere will only be one sitting of this test in 2012, and it will take place on Saturday 18 February 2012. Please contact UCD Registry – Admissions (Tel +353 1 716 1608; Email mature.students@ucd.ie) for further details. Applicants must apply for their preferred programme through the CAO, and register separately for this test before the closing date of 1 February 2012.

*Except those achieving the required grades in a UCD Access to Arts and Human Sciences course.

Intending applicants for Medicine must apply for the Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT). Te only sitting of this test in 2012 will be on Saturday 25 February 2012. Te results of the HPAT are valid for two years. In addition to the CAO applica- tion, applicants must register for the HPAT at www.hpat-ireland.acer.edu.au.
