1. General Entry Requirements (a) Age

Students must normally have attained the age of 17 years by 15 January fol- lowing entry; i.e. for entry in September 2012, date of birth must be on or before 15 January 1996.

(b) Matriculation

To ‘matriculate’ is to achieve essential entry requirements that allow you to enter UCD. For instance, for all applicants, English is an essential matriculation requirement. For further information see the section below relevant to the examina- tions you are presenting.

(c) Admission

Admission to most undergraduate pro- grammes is extremely competitive. Entry is normally based on the points system for students presenting Irish Leaving Certificate examinations. For those apply- ing on the basis of other examinations or via alternative entry routes, please see the relevant section below.

(d) Additional Requirements for Medical, Para-Medical and Veterinary Medicine Programmes

A Applicants for Medicine (DN400) are assessed on a combination of their school-leaving qualifications and the Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT). Te only sitting of this test in 2012 will be on Saturday 25 February 2012. Te results of the HPAT are valid for two years. In addition to the CAO application, applicants must register for the HPAT at www.hpat-ireland.acer.edu.au.

A Candidates for admission to Medicine (DN400, DN401), Biomedical, Health and Life Sciences (DN440), Radiography (DN410), Physiotherapy (DN420) and Nursing & Midwifery (DN450, DN460, DN451, DN461, DN453, DN463, DN452, DN462) are required to undergo a mandatory healthcare screening process prior to admission and from time to time thereafter, in accordance with a stringent healthcare screening policy. Tere are associated fees for these procedures. Students applying to these programmes can find further information on these processes and policies at www.ucd.ie/registry/admissions.

A Applicants to certain programmes will also be required to complete Garda vetting and/or overseas police clearance and may be required to sign an affidavit if applicable (at present this applies to Medicine, Radiography, Physiotherapy and Nursing & Midwifery). Details are available at www.ucd.ie/registry/admissions.

It is important to note that Healthcare Screening and Garda Vetting are compulsory programme requirements.

A Students who have previously been unsuccessful in any Medicine or Veterinary Medicine programme will only be considered for re-admission to the same programme on a case-by- case appeal basis, to be considered by the relevant Programme Board. Students should include any details of extenuating circumstances along with their application.

(e) Eligibility: Residence and Education

Irish and EU students are eligible to apply for admission to all programmes. Non-EU students are eligible to apply for admis- sion to a limited number of places in all programmes except for Nursing pro- grammes, where non-EU applications will only be considered in the unlikely event that places remain after all EU applica- tions have been considered.

(f) ‘Irish’ as a Required Subject

Applicants born outside the Republic of Ireland, and certain other categories of applicant, may be exempt from the Irish requirement. Please refer to the NUI booklet, Minimum Academic Entry and Registration (Matriculation) Requirements (available in the Entry Requirements sec- tion of the NUI website, www.nui.ie) or contact UCD’s Student Desk (see ‘Useful Contacts’, page 190).

(g) Assessment of Applications

Applications can only be assessed on the basis of information provided with the application. All documentation and exam- ination results (including any exemptions granted by NUI), which are being pre- sented for assessment for entry to UCD, must be with UCD Registry Admissions or the Central Applications Office (CAO) no later than the dates overleaf:
