It is the responsibility of applicants to pro- vide full and accurate information in an application and to notify the University of any changes or corrections to the original application.
In the light of additional information, which was not available at the time of selection, an offer may be amended or, in exceptional circumstances, withdrawn. Te University also reserves the right to correct errors where they have been made in the communication of decisions and offers.
2. Application Procedures Most applications (non-EU applicants, please refer to page 178) for our under- graduate degree programmes are made through the Central Applications Office (CAO). Applications can be made online at

Application forms and detailed informa- tion on application procedures are dis- tributed by the CAO to all post-primary schools in Ireland. Application forms are accompanied by the CAO handbook (also at
www.cao.ie), which gives details of application procedures and closing dates. Please read this handbook very carefully. Te normal closing date for receipt of com- pleted applications in the CAO is 5.15pm on 1 February 2012. Late applications will be accepted up to 5.15pm on 1 May 2012 by the CAO, subject to an additional fee.
However, please note the following:
(i) Not all programmes will accept late applications on the grounds of mature years. Tose which do will consider late applications only if places are available. Applicants should check the relevant programme description in the Mature Student booklet, Application on the Grounds of Mature Years for Entry 2012/2013 (
www.ucd.ie/myucd/mature).
(ii) Tere is no late application facility to Medicine (DN400), Medicine Graduate Entry (DN401), Music (DN517), Nursing Mature Entry (DN460, DN461, DN462 or DN463) and Veterinary Medicine Graduate entry (DN301). However, applicants may add any of these courses (except DN301 and DN517) to their application at CAO ‘Change of Mind’ time, provided their CAO application at 1 February included the same course at another institution.
Te University may not be able to accom- modate applicants who become entitled to a place in a programme as a result of a rechecking of Leaving Certificate exami- nation papers. Such students are guar- anteed a deferred offer for the following year and they are strongly encouraged to take this option.
Admission to all programmes is competi- tive. Before making an application to the CAO, please check the minimum entry requirements for the degree programme of your choice, as listed in this pro- spectus. Detailed information on entry requirements and admission procedures for prospective students may be found at

3. Irish Leaving Certificate Applicants
(a) Matriculation
UCD is a constituent university of the National University of Ireland (NUI). Detailed matriculation requirements are available in the entry requirements sec- tion of the NUI website:
www.nui.ie. All students will be required to meet matricu- lation requirements by:
(i) Passing, at prescribed levels and in the required subjects, a school leaving examination equivalent to Ireland’s Leaving Certificate. To matriculate on the results of the Leaving Certificate, a student must present at least six subjects selected according to programme requirements (see entry requirements for each programme) and must obtain grade C3, or better, in two recognised subjects on Higher Papers, and grade D3, or better, in the remaining four subjects on Ordinary or Higher Papers.

It is essential to have passed six subjects according to programme requirements. Te two grade C3s, or better, on Higher Papers may be obtained in any of the recognised matriculation subjects. One grade E on a Higher Course at Leaving Certificate will be accepted if the candidate has, among their other subjects, grade C3 on three Higher Papers, or at least one grade B3 and one grade C3 on Higher Papers. (Tis compensation rule does not currently apply to matriculation for Nursing programmes, but this is under review.)
(ii) Obtaining appropriate results in specified FETAC (NCVA) Level 5 awards (see
www.ucd.ie/myucd/ fetac for details) or obtaining a qualification at Level 6 and upwards of the National Framework of Qualifications, awarded by HETAC, or a similar qualification; or
(iii) Being recommended to NUI by UCD, e.g. on grounds of mature years.
