Scholarships & Awards


Excellence underpins everything we do at UCD, and the University recognises exceptional students when they join, as well as exceptional students who develop their talents while studying at UCD. Our academic, sporting and performing arts awards reflect different levels of achievement, and are presented at University, College, Programme and School level. UCD also has a range of specific schemes to recognise students’ contributions to the community, inside and outside the University.


UCD Ad Astra Academy


Te UCD Ad Astra Academy has been established to offer unique opportunities and supports to highly talented students across the University. Trough membership of the Academy, students displaying elite potential to international standards in academic pursuits, sports or performing arts will be encouraged and supported to develop their talent further. Eligible students will join the Ad Astra Academy


on acceptance of a place on a UCD undergraduate pro- gramme, but there will be opportunities for outstanding students to join the Academy as they progress through their studies. Te UCD Ad Astra Academy Scholars are recognised by the University as a group of students with particularly high potential. Te Academy receives generous support from UCD Foundation.


UCD Ad Astra Academic Scholars


Eligibility – prospective students Tose attaining 600 CAO points or equivalent in year of entry. No application is required and recipients are auto- matically informed.


Eligibility – while studying at UCD Students from each programme area who gain top place in their first year and have a GPA of at least 4.0 (maxi- mum GPA 4.2).


Benefits Academic privileges include individual academic mentor- ing, early access to advanced modules, participation in Universitas 21 Summer School, access to distinguished alumni, and a place on graduate programmes, subject to meeting normal entry requirements. A bursary will include a 50% fee remission plus 50% reduction of on- campus accommodation cost. Academy membership and benefits are awarded for the normal duration of the pro- gramme of study subject to annual review of continued high performance.


UCD Ad Astra Elite Athlete Scholars


Eligibility – prospective students Strong competitive sporting record at the high- est level (nationally and internationally). Athletes must be capable of meeting academic requirements of the programme they wish to follow. Athletes apply to the CAO as normal and also submit a supplementary application to the UCD Elite Athlete

UCD Ad Astra Performing Arts Scholars


Eligibility – prospective students Young vocalists, instrumentalists and actors who have the potential to achieve international standards in performance. Members must meet academic require- ments of the programme they wish to follow. Completed application forms must be received by 31st January 2012. Eligibility – while studying at UCD Current UCD students are eligible to apply. Completed application forms must be received by 31st January 2012.


Benefits Special entry route if required to applicant’s study programme of choice. Each scholar will receive individ- ual academic mentoring and will have the opportunity to work with a professional artistic director, as well as access to distinguished alumni. Each scholar will per- form in a programme of high quality musical or dramatic productions including solo or small group recitals where applicable. A bursary will include a 50% fee remission plus 50% reduction of on-campus accommodation cost. Academy membership and benefits are awarded for the normal duration of the programme of study subject to annual review of continued high performance.
