Applying to UCD


Applications from those who have previously been unsuccessful in any Medicine or Veterinary Medicine programme will only be considered for admission to the same programme in UCD, on a case-by-case basis on appeal. Appeals should be accompanied by an academic reference and medical certificates, if applicable.


Tose currently registered for a UCD programme who wish to re-attend Stage 1 of the same programme should contact the relevant Programme Office. See UCD’s repeats policy at www.ucd.ie/registry/ academicsecretariat/pol.htm.


(ii) Internal Transfer with Advanced Standing


At the end of the academic year, students may apply for consideration for transfer to Stage 2 or later of another UCD programme, subject to availability of places in that programme and compliance with transfer and entry requirements. Application should be made via www.ucd.ie/apply. Te closing date is 1 July.


At the end of Semester 1, Stage 1 or 2 students may apply for consideration to transfer to another programme, subject to availability of places and to their meeting the transfer and entry requirements. Application must be made on the official form, which will be available to download at www.ucd.ie/myucd/transfer and in hard copy from the Student Desk from 1 October.


Te closing date for receipt of completed applications is 1 December.


(iii) External Transfer with Advanced Standing


All applicants seeking to enter UCD with advanced standing (except recognised progression routes – see (iv) below) must apply to have their prior learning accredited – see policy at www.ucd.ie/registry/ academicsecretariat/pol.htm.


Applicants whose Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) application is successful should apply via www.ucd.ie/apply by 1 July prior to proposed entry (it is possible


to complete an APL application simultaneously if desired).


Such applicants must normally meet the entry requirements of the rising class (e.g. for entry to Stage 2 in 2012, they must have the qualifications required for admission to Stage 1 in 2011).


(iv) Progression Routes


Transfers from Institutes of Technology in Ireland are considered for Agriculture, Architecture, Engineering, Science, Commerce and Social Science.


A Applicants must have attained a merit/distinction in a relevant award at Level 6/7.


A Applications must be submitted via www.ucd.ie/apply by 1 July prior to proposed entry.

Transfer into Stage 4 Architecture Applicants who have achieved an honours standard in the third year examination of a programme recognised by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI), or the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), as giving exemption from the RIAI and RIBA final examinations, or an equiv- alent qualification, are eligible to apply for entry to Stage 4 Architecture. Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend for interview. Applications must be submit- ted via www.ucd.ie/apply by 1 July prior to proposed entry.

Successful completion of a number of programmes within UCD facilitates pro- gression to degree programmes. A full list of progression routes is published at www.ucd.ie/myucd/transfer.


(v) Re-entry


Tose seeking to re-enter UCD should apply via the CAO, unless they are seek- ing to re-enter post-Stage 1 (in which case they will apply via www.ucd.ie/apply by 1 July).


Students seeking to re-enter with advan- ced standing on the basis of material cov- ered pre-modularisation should request accreditation of their prior learning. Tis can be done prior to making an application, or at the time of making an application.

Note with Regard to Transcripts Students should note that all UCD attend- ance may be recorded on the transcript, including incomplete years.


Forfeiture of Rights Consequent on Transfer


A student who has been permitted to transfer from one programme to another ceases to be a student of his or her original programme and forfeits any further rights arising from attendance in the original programme.
