#IBC2023
67 Kevin Joyce, Zer0 Friction Officer, TAG Video Systems What are the biggest
challenges facing the media and entertainment industry? Uncertainty. Changing consumer preferences are driving the industry, but where is it going? Rumours that broadcast is dead are greatly exaggerated, or at least premature, but the landscape is shifting from linear to OTT, from SDI to IP, from on-site to remote, and with all that comes new technologies. Should we lead the charge or wait to see what works, and what fails? Which consumer demands are permanent and which are temporary? How many streaming services have made the cut and how many crashed and burned? And what about AI? Saviour to some, Satan to others. There’s so much we just are not sure about.
What do you think are the main drivers in your market sector? In addition to the usual suspects – cloud, IP, AI – there is data. Understanding and maximising data is the key to understanding the industry and the audience, and in turn unlocking innovation, revenue growth and audience
expansion. It exposes deficiencies and problems but can also provide content owners and broadcasters with the insight they need to make informed decisions, accelerate change and excel technically and operationally.
How is your company helping its customers to address the challenges faced by the media and entertainment industry? We ensure our customers are prepared to keep pace with an industry in transition by quickly and efficiently providing support for all the existing and emerging
formats and protocols they need to provide the highest-level service to their subscribers and viewers. Since interoperability is so critical in today’s workflows we also proactively participate in events that put our solutions through exercises to prove their reliability, effectiveness and compatibility with different technologies. For example, we recently received the SRT Ready badge and the SRT Plugged badge following a rigorous process that tested our capabilities – which met the criteria for both.
What are the main areas of focus for your company during IBC2023? We are focusing on technologies, integrations and processes that provide customers with a quicker, clearer, more complete picture of content health and status. Specifically, our new Content Matching automatically and accurately identifies and compares content throughout the workflow for greater confidence; we are demonstrating a
KOKO ASSISTS DIGITAL CINEMA WORKFLOW Ovide & Qtake BY DAVID FOX
The new Ovide Koko is a compact recording monitor with video assist functions that can record four 1080p60 cameras or one 4K in Apple ProRes to a removable SSD drive. It has a 10.1in
1920x1200 HDR (1000 nits) DCI-P3 touchscreen with six 12G-SDI in/out and SDI audio, or analogue XLR via break-out cable. Its functions include rec-stop-play in/out, histogram, waveform, focus
heightened integration with Skyline Communications’ DataMiner that provides more concentrated content insights and management capabilities, and we are showing how easy it is to work with third parties to create custom dashboards and visualisations on our multiviewer.
What sets your company apart as a technology leader? TAG has been the architect of so many industry firsts: the first IP-based, all software integrated probing, monitoring and visualisation solution; the first (and only) to implement a Zer0 Friction strategy of asset utilisation; and the first to provide the open-source tools needed to put data in the hands of customers for deep insight into quality, metrics and issues. For the first time, media companies can measure internet networks and CDN performance across all of their signals and know where to shift workloads for optimum performance to truly improve both Quality of Service and Quality of Experience. 1.C15
