VIRTUAL PRODUCTION WALL MAKES GLOBAL DEBUT Samsung

Making its offi cial global launch, and a centrepiece of Samsung’s IBC exhibit, is the IVC series of LEDs with which virtual production studios can create ultra-large LED walls.


IVC is part of Samsung’s The Wall range of displays and is built using fl ip-chip microLEDs rather than conventional SMDs. “IVC is different to standard run-of-the-mill LED tech used in virtual production studios,” said Mark Taylor, European Head of LED, Samsung. “It is smooth to the


touch because there is no material around the LED itself. This creates the opportunity for fi lmmakers to display a much deeper black.” Samsung dubs this aspect of the IVC ‘Black Seal Technology’. It is built into the display and creates a canvas for purer black levels, with an ultra-low refl ective fi lm applied to minimise external light refl ection. The contrast ratio of the screen is 40,000: 1 and it comes in two pixel pitch sizes of 2.1mm and 1.68mm supported by a peak of 2000 nits. “IVC gives virtual production fi lm- makers an incredible viewing angle and far better opportunity to move the camera around, including close- up to the screen, without seeing
