ARI liquor shop takes centre stage amid ‘multi-phased’ Dublin T2 upgrade


The opening of Aer Rianta International’s new flagship liquor shop in Dublin Airport T2 was the first major milestone in a commercial revamp which includes a new The Loop walkthrough perfumes and cosmetics shop. Andrew Pentol reports.

s Dublin Airport Terminal 2 continues its multi-phased development of more than


2,000sq m of retail space, Aer Rianta International (ARI) is pulling out all the stops to deliver the optimum commercial offer. The first major investment in


the Terminal 2 retail offering since it opened in 2010 began with the launch of Irish retailer Avoca’s inaugural travel retail store. This took place in the second week of May. The entire T2 renovation project is due for completion by the end of August 2019. Created through a partnership


between ARI and Avoca, the 86sq m store delivers a contemporary Irish retail offering to passengers. ARI Ireland General Manager


Martin Carpenter tells TRBusiness: “Avoca offers very ‘in vogue’ products. It is the first time they have ever done anything on this size and scale with a food assortment. “We have always had their shawls,


socks and bits and pieces as part of our Irish Memories offer, but have taken them out and created a standalone store. It is doing phenomenal business.”

The opening of the Avoca outlet may have kicked off the transformation, but the first major phase was the opening of the retailer’s new flagship 405sq m liquor store in August. The store soft-launched on 18 August and officially opened three days later. Currently, passengers immediately


see the new liquor shop on emerging from security, but will soon enter a new beauty walkthrough and come out where the previous liquor shop was.


Liquor footprint grows 68% The liquor outlet offers 162 new skus, 80 of which are wines and 82 from other segments. Space has increased by +68% compared to the previous store. Boasting a state-of-the-art design


inspired by speakeasy trends in downtown bars, new products and brands include Campari, Chabot, Dead Rabbit Distillery, Penfolds and Berringer. Teelings Collinstown 12yo,


Jameson Double Charred and Jack Daniels Single Casks have joined the collection as new ARI exclusives, adding to over 80 different international gins. These include Silver Spear Gin,


Old Carrick Mill, Garnish Island Gin, Beara Gin from Ireland, Gin Scapegrace from New Zealand and Edinburgh Gin and Bulldog Gin from the UK. Digital innovation is embedded


throughout with screens and promotional areas delivering an interactive customer experience. At the front of the outlet,


customers are greeted by a 16-metre LED screen with a welcome message and text encouraging them to meet the brand ambassadors in-store. Incoming ARI CEO Ray Hernan,
