AIRLINE NEWS Ryanair waives fees before November baggage policy kicks in

Ryanair has offered dispensation to 2m non-priority customers who have ‘fallen foul’ of its new baggage rules set to arrive in November. As reported, the low-cost carrier recently

announced that non-priority passengers could only bring one free small carry-on bag onboard. Those travelling with wheelie cases

weighing up to 10kg would have to pay €8 to store them in the hold or upgrade to priority boarding for cabin privileges in a move to cut check-bag fees and gate delays. Ryanair had previously stated the

policy applied to anyone travelling after 1 November (on bookings made on or after 1 September), but fees would also apply on all bookings made prior to the rule change for travel. Passengers were given the option of

cancelling flights for a full refund, adding priority boarding or paying to stow a bag.

Now, it has moved to offer a free 10kg check bag to the 2m customers who booked before 31 August for travel after 1 November. The airline has also offered a priority

boarding refund to 50,000 passengers who had already booked and paid for it as a separate service after 1 September. Additionally,

passengers to travel with priority boarding

free of charge. “As always Ryanair continues to lower

the cost of travel, while our new bag policy from 1 Nov means we can eliminate all free gate bags and related flight delays,” said Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs.
