The articulated project entry for the creation of MAST included a series of corporate services for the employees, as well as a few activities open to the public. This expressed the will to create a centre of excellence that could exceed the closed dimension of a productive enclosure.

The designers of the Labics architectural firm have interpreted this indication by joining the different functions in one building complex in such a way as to give the intervention greater strength and identity and define the role of an interface between public and private. The building was designed as an open urban microorganism dedicated to arts, innovation, and technology. On the outside, it features a unitary image, whereas inside, it is differentiated by an intricate system of pathways and functions. On the ground floor, MAST houses a company restaurant, an exhibition hall, service rooms, a gym, and a large nursery with a garden. On the upper floor, there are two exhibition halls with annexes and a café. The top floor is partly occupied by classrooms, an ample foyer, and a 400-seat auditorium.
MAST was designed to be civic, open, and welcoming and it presents itself as an urban device that goes beyond its borders to build relations with the surroundings near and far. The city is its natural setting and the community, its user.
The building is structured according to the traffic flow and possible interactions between the various activities it houses. It includes numerous services organised in such a way as to trigger, as in urban fabrics, new functional relations and unexpected ways of using space. A walkway runs across the entire building, connecting all the activities among them and with the city, the public space par excellence. This way, the complex becomes a lively and dynamic organism open to the public.
