GRAND PRIX AWARDS CEREMONY IN VENICE The awards ceremony of the tenth edition of the Casalgrande Padana Grand Prix was held on Friday 27 May 2016 in the prestigious Aula Magna of the IUAV University of Venice, in the heart of the historical Tolentini Complex.

This choice marks the continuity with the previous editions, which have become outstanding cultural events, thanks to the highly significant settings, which have included the Milan Triennale, the Scuola Grande di S. Giovanni Evangelista in Venice, the Sala dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, the Aula Magna of the Ca’ Granda University in Milan, and Spazio CityLife, also in Milan. The contribution of distinguished personalities from the world of design, critique, academia, and communication adds to the prestige of the event.

Over 150 candidates from all over the world reached the final stage of the competition with high-quality proposals, thereby demonstrating the increasingly widespread use and value of ceramic materials in the construction field.

And the places where these works were carried out – South Africa, Qatar, Peru, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland, France, and Italy – shown in this volume, prove just that. The prizes were awarded by the Grand Prix international jury chaired by Franco Manfredini, President of Casalgrande Padana, and composed of Alfonso Acocella, Architect, Full Professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Ferrara (Italy); Giuseppe Cappochin, Architect, Chairman of Italy’s National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Curators, Rome (Italy); Riccardo Blumer, Architect, Full Professor at USI - Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio (Switzerland) and IUAV University in San Marino (Republic of San Marino); Christophe Le Gac, Architect, Journalist, Paris (France); Domenico Podestà, Architect, Appointed by Italy’s National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Curators, Rome (Italy); Sebastian Redecke, Architect, Editor-in-Chief of “Bauwelt” magazine, Berlin (Germany); Matteo Vercelloni, Architect, Journalist, Architecture Critic, Milan (Italy). The award ceremony was topped off with

a lecture by architect Simone Sfriso from TAMassociati, who curated the Italian Pavilion at the 15th Venice Biennale of Architecture, which includes Casalgrande Padana among its sponsors.
