l A small but significant improvement in skin evenness grades (vs. baseline and placebo).

In all three cases, the data above shows with clear time dependence (significant at D28 but not at D14).

Skin colour (Chromameter) Use of our active results in a small but significant lightening effect (vs. baseline and placebo), manifested in an increase in L*

(i.e. brighter skin), and a decrease in b* and b* The changes observed (2 units of L*

, shows a corresponding increase (lighter skin). , half a unit of b*

Day 28

(i.e. less yellow

skin). The Individual Typological Angle (ITA˚), calculated from L*

) should

represent noticeable changes in skin tone (this is best reflected in the ITA˚ values, where the proportional change is greater). This effect also fits a detoxification mechanism: chronically challenged skin (like a heavy smoker’s facial skin; under chronic, low-grade inflammatory conditions) will generate elevated melanin levels (elevated or uneven skin pigmentation, spots, etc) – Asteriscus graveolens extract appears to alleviate that effect. The activity is only detectable at D28, consistent with an

effect which requires time for the desquamation process to dispose of melanin-loaded keratinocytes/corneocytes, making room for new cells which came to maturity under the influence of our active, and therefore under lower chronic toxic stress.

Magnolia

Skin hydration (Corneometer) Asteriscus graveolens extract cream shows a time-dependent increase in skin hydration, statistically significant vs. baseline and placebo (placebo has no significant activity). The data shown is from the mouth corner.
