NEWS New active mimics Botox

Givaudan Active Beauty presents Zanthalene, a scalable natural active ingredient crafted by green fractionation with botox- like efficacy and skin sensitivity modulation benefits. Created from Zanthoxylum bungeanum, commonly known as Sichuan pepper, Zanthalene is a cosmetic ingredient derived from spice and able to act on neuromuscular communication within the skin structure, providing well-ageing effects and soothing benefits depending on its concentration in formulas. All consumers eventually experience the effects of ageing on the skin, such as wrinkles and sensitivity. However, a large number will not be motivated to reverse these

effects through invasive treatments. Crafted from Sichuan pepper,

a plant widely used as a spice in Asian cuisine, Zanthalene is extracted from its fruit husks using super critical CO2. Its efficacy has been proven during several clinical studies: At low dosage (0.5%),

Zanthalene is able to reduce skin discomfort such as itching and sensitivity by bringing a soothing effect to the skin in only a few minutes. At higher dosage (1%),

Zanthalene shows a visible and immediate reduction of the skin’s roughness parameter in only 30 minutes, and long-term efficacy over 30 days. This indicates that the organism continues to respond

even over regular use of the product, creating a virtuous circle of amelioration. Zanthalene is thus a perfect

ingredient for formulation in beauty products targeting tired skin, aiming for a refreshed look and an immediately visible effect.

Zero waste plum kernel oil launched

Kerfoot Group has commented on the strategic importance of its sustainable zero-waste Plum Kernel Oil in new product development for the personal care product sector. Demonstrating the enormous growth potential, the global

market for Plum Kernel Oil is expected to reach a value of $305m by 2027, up from $224m in 2020, according to intelligence firm Precision Reports. The oil stands apart from many of its contemporaries in the personal care ingredients sector because

of the processes used to manufacture it ensure that each part of the plum is utilised and none of it goes to waste or landfill. As consumers continue

to gravitate towards more sustainably focused products, Kerfoot Group believes that Plum Kernel Oil is an example of how the personal care sector can find additional sustainability gains along its supply chains. The business believes that this can be achieved by selecting ingredients that demonstrate meaningful eco-friendly credentials that resonate with shoppers - and harnessing this as a key product advantage.

complementary to our product portfolio and strategy, where sustainability is one of the main drivers,” explains Leandro Soncini, President and chief operating officer of Cosmotec. “We are one of the leading suppliers of specialty raw materials for the personal care industry in Brazil, and the AAK Lipex range offers valuable new tools for formulators to develop natural and more sustainable skin and hair care products that also deliver on

performance.” “We believe the appointment

of Cosmotec will strengthen our position in the Brazilian market,” says Minna Dam, global business director for AAK Personal Care. “Cosmotec has a strong local presence, comprehensive logistics and a knowledgeable staff. We are looking forward to working closely together to bring innovative and more sustainable natural-based ingredients to market.”

Emulsifying gel for luxurious feel

In response to global consumer demand for skin care products that deliver a good skin feel, Elementis has developed the Bentone Luxe XO emulsifying gel for personal care product formulators. Bentone Luxe XO is an effective ingredient for mineral sun care, premium facial care, post-aesthetic treatment, and nourishing body care product formulations that is dynamic and flexible. Given consumers’ quest for

personal care products that feel good on the skin, traditional water in oil formulas have fallen out of favour because of their heavy texture. Bentone Luxe XO creates a unique, luxurious feel. Compared to traditional water in oil formats, Bentone Luxe XO provides outstanding stability in suspending pigments and particles even over several freeze-thaw cycles. In addition to its benefits

in classical skin care, Bentone Luxe XO supports the water resistance of formulas. Therefore, it is a natural choice in creating high performance sun care and makeup with excellent wear resistance and superior film formation.
