This will be my final issue as editor of Personal Care magazine, as I will be stepping down at the end of the month. Over the course of 11 years, we have seen the magazine and its sister products go from strength to

strength, becoming a truly global resource for formulators in the personal care sector. One of the areas of the industry we have paid particularly close attention to over the years has been the rapid developments in marine technology, which is a focus area again this month. Marine ingredients have been a critical factor in delivering effective new active ingredients as well as benefiting the push towards increased sustainability. Another rapidly developing feature of the industry in recent years has been the skin microbiome, which has been surging in popularity among consumers in many parts of the world. This new assessment of the relationship between the skin and a wide variety of microbes has given innovative manufacturers a new platform for product development and this month we have articles to help you with new ingredients and, importantly for a relatively new space,
understanding what claims can be made. It has been a very strange and unsettled
world over the past eighteen months, and one of the most notable absences have been industry exhibitions which have all but come to a standstill during the pandemic. We had originally planned to bringing you the latest information on the upcoming in-cosmetics Global exhibition, to be held in Barcelona. It would have been a very welcome sight for many people, as the event had become such a key date in the calendar, hosting an enormous number of product launches as well as providing numerous networking opportunities. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be. It was at events such as in-cosmetics and
Suppliers’ Day that I met many Personal Care readers and commercial supporters, making great friends in this exciting, fast-moving and innovative industry along the way. I am sure many readers will have
encountered significant hurdles as a result of the pandemic, which has hit certain sectors harder than others. I sincerely believe that with the support of innovative ingredient suppliers and well-run industry organisations, all areas of the industry will be able to bounce back swiftly. I wish all Personal Care’s readers and
commercial supporters the best of luck and health in the future.
