Formulating clean beauty made easy
As the demand and standards for clean beauty rapidly increase, formulators continue to face new challenges posed by natural ingredients; especially around stability and shelf life. After vigorous research and testing, Jeen International has officially released their new multifunctional cosmetic ingredient that is free of phenoxyethanol, parabens, MITs, and formaldehyde releasers— Jeecide Cap-7. Jeecide Cap-7 contributes
antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and mould in
cosmetic formulations while also offering emollient and skin conditioning properties. Jeecide
Cap-7 is an easy-to-use, clear liquid that can be deployed in both leave-on and rinse-off applications, and is applicable in anionic, cationic and non-ionic formulations. Jeen International Corporation
representatives are available to help you discover more details about Jeecide Cap-7’s full capabilities, test results and how formulators can use it to improve the ‘green’ factor of new products.

Strong hold from natural-derived polymer
Ashland has launched Styleze CSP, a nature-derived styling polymer that delivers strong hold, humidity resistance and high stiffness. Based on cassia seeds, Styleze CSP leaves low to no residue on the hair versus other natural styling polymers. As consumers continue to demand natural ingredients in their beauty products, hair styling formulators seek ingredients derived from nature. In styling, natural solutions can be challenging as they often do not provide the performance of their synthetic counterparts. Ashland sources cassia seeds
that are grown wild and naturally harvested in India. They have been used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for over four thousand years. “Styleze CSP polymer
addresses the need for naturally- positioned styling formulas where initial stiffness, strong hold and humidity resistance are desired,” said Denise Costrini, global marketing manager, Ashland. “It provides more stiffness and hold than traditional synthetic products such as PVP, while offering that all-important nature derived claim that consumers are seeking without the residue that
other natural styling polymers can leave on the hair. Styleze CSP has 69% natural origin content (according to ISO 16128) and delivers 24-hr humidity resistance that outperforms PVP.” Styleze CSP delivers clear
in-hand gels that are easy to remove from the hair. The versatility of Styleze CSP polymer enables its use in a variety of hair styling products, from styling gels and creams to waxes, mousses and serums. Styleze CSP is a possible alternative to PVP to improve the naturality of styling formulations.
Boosting fragrance in soild bases
CPL Aromas has added coverage of solid bases to its sustainability technology EcoBoost, to address this growing and necessary segment of the sustainable market. Solid bases present a unique combination of convenience and sustainability. It is in consumers’ and manufacturers’ interest, therefore, to grow the solid base market. EcoBoost for Solid Bases
presents three technical advantages over other fragrances: firstly, in order to create a solid base, a large amount of water needs to be taken out of the formulation. It is often not possible to incorporate the required level of fragrance into the concentrated product. Being able to use Ecoboost at ten times less than normal dosage makes this feasible. Also, producing concentrated applications makes it more likely that the finished product will require more hazardous labelling, restricting fragrance odour choice. Being able to use EcoBoost fragrances makes this far more viable. Last but not least, surfactants in solid bases often hold on to the fragrance and do not allow it to emanate into the product headspace. The use of Ecoboost fragrances, with their low odour- perception thresholds, makes it easier to get excellent in-use fragrance performance.
Property sale in Philadelphia to boost future growth
Inolex is listing the company’s 6.2- acre property located at 2101 South Swanson Street in Philadelphia, PA for sale on the commercial real estate market. In 2019, Inolex transitioned their US production platform to a new flagship manufacturing facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, US. “Establishing robust manufacturing capabilities in Charlotte was a generational move to anticipate and serve global demand,” said David Plimpton, CEO & President of Inolex. “Likewise, the divestiture of the Philadelphia site is the next important step in our long-term growth plans

that reflects our entrepreneurial, innovative spirit as a company.” Concurrent to the site sale, the
company is evaluating options for new offices and laboratory space in the greater Philadelphia region. “Since inception, Inolex has been
a company that has adapted and evolved to remain relevant in the market. We now have an opportunity to deploy our deep technical expertise as both a designer and a manufacturer of ingredients with space, equipment, and means for innovation that will serve for years to come,” said Plimpton.
